 The competition between tourist destinations intensifies today and for this reason, many sites have created the Destination Management Organizations (DMO) which are taking a leadership role in the management and marketing of tourism in a particular geographic area. Those organizations rely on partnerships and collaborations with local organizations to jointly highlight and promote the special tourist “product” of their area.
Within the project GreenSpots, a Business Plan was prepared for the creation of a Destination Management Organization with the following lines of action: the activation of all local bodies for the promotion of the area's natural resources, the creation of tourism "events" to extending the tourist season, the development of alternative forms of tourism (hiking, biking, rural tourism), the strengthening of the cultural identity of the area, the creation of strategic relationships and partnerships required for the development of the tourism sector.
The 7 partners of GreenSpots project, the Development Agency of the Municipality of Komotini “K.Karatheodori S.A.” (which is also the Lead Partner of the project), the Association of Hoteliers of Thrace, the "Energy – Environment – Development" Agency, the “Spa and Tourist Enterprise” of Alexandroupolis, the "Reconstruction and Development Union” of Haskovo, the "Association of Hotel and Restaurant Owners and Traders” of Chepelare and the "Tourism Council” of Rudozem signed a Cooperation Protocol for the creation of a common Destination Management Organization to contribute to the sustainable tourism development in the border area (of Evros, Rodopi, Xanthi, Iaskovo, Chepelare and Rudozem) by the adoption of environmentally friendly measures and actions.
